  1. Other informations
    The department has a record of outstanding achievements. In the University examination of March/April 1996 our department was among the three colleges in the University that scored 100% of pass in the Final Year B.A Degree Examination.   Sindhu . P of this department secured the IInd Rank in the Final year M.A Degree examination of April 2000.   In the Final Semester M.A Examination of 2003 our students Nadeera Banu and Soumini . K.P secured Ist Rank and IInd Rank respectively. In the final year B.A Examination of April 2004 our students Shibi Johnson   and Anitha . K bagged the IInd and IIIrd Rank respectively. In the Final Year B.A Examinations of 2005 and 2006 we secured 100% pass.   In the M.A Examination of 2004 also we have 100% of pass. All through these years the bulk of the teaching staff were guest lecturers.

    At present the department is a full fledged one having seven permanent teachers. All these teachers are noted for their research works also.   Of the seven lecturers three are having Doctorate Degree and the other four also are doing research leading to the degree of   Ph.D . Of these two have M.Phil Degree. Dr. Chithra Devi, Dr. Vijayalekshmi and Dr. Devadas are engaged in Post Doctoral studies.   Four of the teachers, Dr. Devadas , Dr. Chithradevi , G.Sunil Kumar and G. Gopi Krishnan obtained financial assistance from the UGC for undertaking minor research projects.   A publication grant is awarded to Dr. Vijayalekshmi . M by the ICHR for publishing their Doctoral thesis.
     
    The members of the department have been members in the professional bodies of historians like the Indian History Congress, the largest organization of Historians in South Asia , South Indian History Congress etc.   They used to attend seminars, workshops, refresher courses etc. at the international, national and University level. Dr. Vijayalekshmi is an Executive member of   The Kerala Council   for Historical Research. She is also the Chairman of the Board of Studies (UG) and Ex-Officio member of the Board of Studies(PG) in History of the University of Calicut . She is also in the panel of Question paper setters and examiners of other Universities. The Dissertations and Tour Reports of the PG Students and UG Students prepared under the guidance of the teachers, especially those of the PG Students have been noted for their originality and are kept in the department The members of the teaching staff also active in and incharge of   various committees of the college and the association of teachers. Sajan . R is the Convener of the Tourism Club. He is also in the Executive Committee of the AKPCTA unit of the college. Sandhya . M. Unnikrishnan is in Charge of the planning forum. Dr. Vijayalekshmi and Dr.Chithradevi are members of the Women's Cell of the college. Archeological explorations have been a regular feature of the department.   Dr. Devadas has been specialized in Archeology and the staff and students have made explorations for Archeological relics   in the nearby areas of Edavanna Kavanur and Pandallur and obtained relics related with the Megalithic Culture of Kerala.   From Edavanna a large burial urn has been unearthed and this Nannangadi   is among the largest burial urns found out from India . The same is kept in the Department. Articles and artifacts connected with the Ethno Archeology of Tribals in   South Malabar also being collected.   Initial works for setting up an Archeological Museum are going on. During 2005 the Post Graduate students of the department used to visit and provide tuition classes for the students of the nearby residential Tribal School . This has been acclaimed by the authorities of the School. Regular Study Tours have been another important feature of the department. These tours to the different   parts of India have been not only as part of the curriculum but also with a view to familiarize students with different cultural centres and enable them to have the thrills of travel and group life. R. Sajan who is in the charge of Tourism Club of   the college used to attend meetings of District Tourism   Development Corporation.   During 2005 – 2006 students were taken to the Kottakkunnu Malappuram , Adyanpara Nilambur etc under the auspices of the Tourism Club apart from the regular study tours in Kerala and other parts of India . In the light of the above facts, attempts have been made at araising the department to the status of a research center under the University of Calicut .

    Special achievements
       In the light of the Research works especially the publication of Research papers and the undertaking of minor research projects by the teaching staff, the department has been awarded the coveted grant of   the PG Assistance   by the UGC. The grant is an amount of 1,73,000.
